NBA Fines Dallas Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford for Wearing MAGA Hat
The NBA has taken disciplinary action against Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford for wearing a MAGA hat during a postgame interview on NBC last Sunday night. The league fined Gafford $11,255 for violating its league dress code, which prohibits players from wearing political attire during official NBA events.
Gafford’s attire drew criticism from some fans and media outlets, who argued that it was inappropriate for a professional athlete to wear such a divisive symbol. Others defended Gafford’s right to express his political views, arguing that the NBA’s dress code was overly restrictive.
This is not the first time the NBA has fined a player for wearing political attire. In 2017, the league fined Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green for wearing a shirt that read “We Must Adapt” during a postgame interview.
It remains to be seen whether Gafford will face any further disciplinary action from the NBA.
