Tristan Jarry calls out Oilers roster after being pulled from the Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers lost 7-3 to the Minnesota Wild last night against a team that just played better overall.

Tristan Jarry was taken out of the game after letting in 5 goals on 20 shots, giving him a low save percentage of . 750. It was a rough night for him, and the Oilers would have appreciated more saves, but Jarry believed the defense should have done a better job.

Tristan Jarry points out that the Oilers need to improve their defense after losing to the Minnesota Wild. After the game, he mentioned that the Oilers were giving away too many chances and need to handle the puck more carefully.

We want to play an exciting game, focusing on their end of the rink. I think when we take those risks, they often come back to hurt us. It’s tough, so we need to make sure we are managing the puck better.

– Tristan Jarry

On the flip side, Coach Knoblauch also criticized his goalies, saying they could have used another save. It’s not great that both sides are identifying different issues with the game.

We could use another save. I think we should allow fewer chances because we do a good job of spending a lot of time in the offensive zone, and we don’t give away too many chances.

While Jarry’s comments about the Oilers’ defense might be right overall, some of the goals he let in definitely should have been stopped. The first goal against was a breakaway during a Wild power play, which was not acceptable from the defense, and it’s hard to blame Jarry for that. The second goal was also nearly impossible for him to save since two Wild players were left alone right in front of the net.

The third and fourth goals that went in should have been stopped by Jarry. One came from a faceoff, and the other slipped past him from behind the net, which are goals any goalie should have saved.

The last goal Jarry gave up could have also been a save. It involved an odd-man rush back into the Oilers’ zone, but it was a shot from far out at a tough angle—Jarry should have been able to handle it.
