Brace for impact! NHL insider rips failing Edmonton Oilers as “complacent” and “lacking urgency”

This information comes from NHL expert Frank Seravalli from Frankly Hockey. He was talking to Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now and shared a harsh opinion about how the Edmonton Oilers are doing this season, as they have only won 28 out of their first 58 games.

“This team really needs a serious wake-up call,” Seravalli stated. “Let’s be honest. I think Leon Draisaitl’s comments were pretty straight to the point. It’s not just about blaming the coach. The truth is that it’s getting late in the season faster than they realize. The Oilers might end up with 91 points by the end of the year. That could be enough to make the playoffs, but it might not be. I believe this team is in a tougher situation than many people think when it comes to their stats, their schedule, and everything else because they seem a bit too comfortable. This goes for the players, the coaching staff, and even some frustrated fans who might think, ‘Oh, since they’ve been to two Stanley Cup finals in a row, they’ll figure it out, become a playoff team, and turn things around. ’ I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t always happen that way.”

Seravalli went on: “I feel like this team is just waiting for something to change. I’m not sure if they are hoping for a trade at the deadline or if they are looking forward to having Paul Coffey back on the bench. I don’t know what exactly this team is missing, but it’s obvious that sticking to the same old routine and trying the same things is not going to help them succeed this year.

“When you’re sitting in 19th place but dreaming of winning the Stanley Cup, that’s just not acceptable. Like I mentioned, the Oilers are projected to get 91 points, and I bet nobody expected that this year. When a team gets to this point, it’s not due to just one player, one person, or one aspect of their performance. It’s everything working together. I truly think that this feeling of being too comfortable or not having enough urgency is the real reason behind the Oilers’ problems this season. ”
