Connor McDavid just broke a record for men’s hockey at the Olympics, which is not surprising.
The superstar from the Edmonton Oilers is known as the top hockey player in the world, and he’s showing that with Team Canada.
In the first two matches at the 2026 Winter Olympics, McDavid has scored six points.
According to Chris Johnston from The Athletic, no one has ever scored that many points in their first two games at an Olympics with NHL players until now.
Before this, two players had started the tournament with five points in two games, and both did that in 2006.
The famous Slovak player Marian Hossa scored five points in the first two games of the 2006 Olympics.
So did the legendary Finnish player Teemu Selanne.
Now, McDavid has surpassed both of them.
He’ll have another chance to score more points in the next game when Canada plays against a weaker French team.
What’s special about McDavid is that he makes everyone else seem like they’re not as good. He plays at a whole new level of speed, strength, and skill compared to the others on the ice.
He does this every game for the Oilers. And this isn’t something new for Canada.
But it is a new experience at the Olympics. McDavid was drafted in 2015, which was a year after NHL players last participated in the Olympics. He couldn’t play in 2018 or 2022.
Now that he finally has his chance, McDavid is making the most of it.
