Team Canada faced a tough loss against Team USA in the Olympic gold medal match, and even though he didn’t play, Sidney Crosby showed amazing leadership afterwards.
Connor McDavid was briefly stopped by TSN reporters as he left the ice and could barely express his deep disappointment. He was supposed to have a longer interview with the media, but Sidney Crosby stepped in for him.
Sidney Crosby helps Connor McDavid after tough Olympic defeat

TSN insider Ryan Rishaug mentioned that McDavid was meant to join the press conference with Coach Jon Cooper after the match. He looked very emotional after the game, so Crosby took his place to talk to the press.
After the game McDavid was told he was doing the press conference so he skipped the writers mix zone expecting to field their question in the presser. Crosby decided he was going to do the presser instead because many had requested him so he accompanied Cooper to the podium…

Even though he couldn’t play in the last two games, Crosby praised Team Canada and McDavid’s efforts highly.
Everyone should feel proud of how we played. I think we did everything right except score. We played really well today. I think we deserved a better outcome.
It’s tough. I just tried to be here and positive. I thought we played really well throughout the tournament, especially leading up to this game. I think today was one of our best performances.

McDavid usually isn’t excited to talk to the media, and he definitely didn’t want to after such a painful loss. With so many other leaders on the team, he didn’t need to go through the loss again. Crosby’s gesture to support him was wonderful.
Crosby pointed out what everyone saw during the game – Team Canada played really well for most of it. They had twice as many chances as the US and several great opportunities to score but couldn’t put the puck in the net.
Nathan MacKinnon even went further and said that Canada was actually the better team. In every way except for the final score, he was completely right.
However, there are no moral victories in the Olympics. Team Canada just fell short of keeping their strong reputation in hockey. They played better today, but they won’t be returning home with a Gold Medal.
