Matthew Tkachuk and Team USA have won the Gold Medal at the Olympics, but he’s still making fun of Leon Draisaitl online.
During the Olympics, Tkachuk became popular for saying something harsh about the Oilers’ star player, Leon Draisaitl, calling him ‘always a bridesmaid. ’ Now, he’s bringing it back and including Connor McDavid and Team Canada in his jokes.
After the Gold Medal match, Tkachuk shared a picture on social media that reminded people of his ‘always a bridesmaid’ comment, featuring mostly Canadian flags but one German flag to tease Team Canada and focus on Draisaitl.
The Wingmen podcast with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk posted this image after Team USA’s gold medal win 😳
This was in reference to Matthew Tkachuk’s “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” chirp to Leon Draisaitl earlier in the tournament.#MilanoCortina2026

Honestly, this feels like a cheap shot and goes against what sportsmanship is all about, which hockey players are supposed to follow. But this is typical behavior for the Tkachuk brothers.
Both brothers, and especially Matthew, are known for being annoying in the NHL, especially to Oilers fans. This post from Tkachuk shows that even after winning Gold at the Olympics, he still wants to annoy the Edmonton Oilers and their players.
Draisaitl, McDavid, and the rest of Team Canada won’t take this personally. They know to expect Tkachuk to throw childish insults, especially when he’s hiding on the ice.
Leon Draisaitl went to line up Matthew Tkachuk… but he turtled 😭

But for fans, this behavior is really off-putting for Tkachuk. Being a bad winner and continuing to taunt Draisaitl after the Gold Medal game is just odd. No other player in the NHL behaves this way, and that’s not a good thing for Tkachuk.
McDavid and Draisaitl will get one more chance to play against Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers this season on March 19th.
It would be great to win that match, but the best way to show him would be to win the Stanley Cup this season.
