Steve Kerr and LeBron James respond to Kevin Durant’s victorious homecoming for Team USA
Steve Kerr, head coach of Team USA men’s basketball, received some excellent news from the medical staff less than an hour before the team’s Olympic debut in Paris. After recovering for a month, Kevin Durant—the all-time top scorer in USA Basketball history—was given the all-clear to resume playing. Because of a persistent calf ailment that Durant had been battling with, Kerr had been cautious all summer, which prevented KD from playing in any of Team USA’s five pre-Olympic tune-up games. However, you would have been unaware that Durant had missed any time if you had only been tuning in on Sunday morning and hadn’t been paying attention during the previous few weeks.
Kevin Durant led Team USA to a 110-84 victory over Serbia with a game-high 23 points in just seventeen minutes of play. However, Durant’s performance was more than just his point total. It was his easy way of scoring those twenty-three points. Team USA led by nine points in the half after KD scored his first eight shots of the game, including a flawless 5-for-5 three-pointer and a fadeaway at the buzzer that went out of bounds.
