Canada’s captain shares feelings after a tough loss on Sunday.
On Sunday, Team Canada faced a heartbreaking defeat against Team USA in the Gold Medal match for the Men’s Hockey Tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Canadian hockey star Sidney Crosby had to watch the game from the bench because he was injured, but he still stayed involved and even skated out to congratulate the winners after the game ended.
Once the medals were awarded, Crosby talked to the media about how hard it was for him to watch instead of playing. He said that fans might feel the pressure more than the players do.
“Yeah, it’s hard,” Crosby said about Sunday’s loss. “Playing is definitely easier than just watching. ”
Despite the defeat, Crosby chose to focus on the good things. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain praised his team’s effort during the game.
“I think everyone should feel proud of how the team played. We did everything right except score,” Crosby explained. “We were really strong today, and I felt like we deserved a better outcome, but sadly, we didn’t win.”
Even though Crosby had to sit out due to his injury, he revealed that he was almost ready to play in the game.
“I was pretty close,” Crosby said. “In the end, I couldn’t go out there and do what I needed to help the team. Sometimes you have to make a choice that’s best for everyone, and that’s not an easy decision, but that’s part of hockey. ”
Crosby also took the time to commend the Canadian players who did compete, many of whom were feeling down after the loss on Sunday.
“I thought we played really well throughout the tournament and faced some tough challenges,” Crosby mentioned. “Getting this far isn’t easy, and we found ways to succeed. I think today’s game was one of our best, but it didn’t turn out the way we wanted. I’m really proud of the team and how we competed today. ”
Crosby’s display of sportsmanship is exactly what you would expect from this Canadian superstar.
