Hughes brothers and Tage Thompson under fire for what they wore at the White House

Viral images from Team USA’s trip have taken attention away from their Olympic gold win.

Instead of being a simple celebration of Team USA achieving a historic gold medal, things have become much more controversial.

When the team visited the White House on Tuesday, some players were seen wearing items promoting Donald Trump’s campaign, which quickly led to arguments online.

Goalie Jeremy Swayman joined his brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes, Tage Thompson, and Connor Hellebuyck to take pictures with the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt. In those pictures, Quinn and Jack Hughes and Thompson were wearing bright red hats linked to Trump’s 2024 campaign. Thompson’s hat had “MAGA” on it, which stands for “Make America Great Again,” while Jack Hughes sported a white version of the campaign cap.

Nobody wanted the USA’s victory to become a political issue. It’s not fair to say “don’t make it political” while things like this happen. This situation could have easily been avoided.

The players got their White House invitation during a phone call from Trump after they won an exciting overtime match against Canada in the gold medal game, marking the USA’s first Olympic men’s hockey gold since the famous “Miracle on Ice” event in 1980.

That call had already caused some drama when Trump made a comment about the U. S. women’s team that led to laughter and criticism.

Out of the 25 players who took part in the competition in Italy, five players—Brock Nelson, Jackson LaCombe, Jake Guentzel, Jake Oettinger, and Kyle Connor—did not go to the White House.

Many fans wished that the gold medal achievement would only focus on hockey. However, the image from the visit has changed the topic of discussion.
In a week that was meant to focus on a championship, politics once again took center stage, and some people believe it was unnecessary…
