Controversial Oilers reporter crosses the line with Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid and coach Kris Knoblauch are feeling really down after missing out on winning a gold medal. It’s a tough wake-up call for them.

Then Mark Spector came into the room on Wednesday. He chose to take a shot at the best player in the world while he was already feeling bad.

Spector directly asked McDavid if he thought it would be this hard to win Stanley Cups and Olympic gold medals. The level of disrespect he’s showing is really shocking for a professional journalist.

Throughout his career in the NHL, McDavid has carried the whole Edmonton team. He often plays more than 21 minutes each game, facing a lot of tough hits along the way.

He recently scored a record 13 points in the Olympic tournament. He was justly named the Most Valuable Player, showing that he is still the best in hockey.

Yet, the local reporter uses his position to make things worse for McDavid. You expect tough but fair questions after a disappointing loss. But a messy and embarrassing question like this is unexpected.

The Oilers have an average record in an ordinary division. They are in the race for the playoffs, fighting for their spot in a tight Pacific Division.

A Beat Reporter Crossing the Line

Asking someone who just lost internationally if winning is tough is completely unprofessional. It doesn’t add anything valuable to the discussion about hockey and feels like he’s just trying to get attention.

Fans in Edmonton are familiar with Spector’s style by now. He likes to create drama when the team is down, focusing on that instead of looking at good passing or solid plays.

Right now, McDavid has 94 points this season. He consistently brings top-notch offensive skills every game, helping a power play that has an impressive success rate of nearly 28 percent.
He is at the top of the league in making smooth plays while avoiding problems with defense. His ability to move the puck is better than anyone else’s in the whole league.

Doubting his knowledge of winning is a disrespect to how hard he works every day. He has incredible talent and expects nothing less than the best from himself.

Knoblauch has been praising his captain’s ability to lead throughout the whole season. The team looks up to number 97 because they recognize the constant hard work he puts in every time he plays.

Spector really needs to pay attention to his surroundings. You should never make fun of a star player who just gave everything he had for his country on an international stage.

The media in Edmonton should make sure players take responsibility when they don’t play well. However, attacks like this are the type of harmful actions that have often pushed great players away from playing in Canada.
