TOTAL COLLAPSE INCOMING? Oilers Rocked by Devastating Update That Could Destroy Their Playoff Dreams!

Tristan Jarry and Kris Knoblauch are under a lot of scrutiny again after a former NHL goalie criticized how hard the Oilers’ goalie is trying.

This situation is the main issue, not just one goal that was tough to stop or a lucky bounce. Edmonton took a big risk by choosing Jarry back in December, and that gamble seems to be looking worse and worse.

The agreement was already controversial when it was made. Jarry came with some concerns from the 2024-25 season, had a short time in the AHL, and has a contract lasting until 2027-28 worth $5.375 million.

It became even trickier to support the trade because Stuart Skinner went the other way in the deal, and they also had to trade Brett Kulak. For Oilers fans, that felt like a high cost for a goalie who didn’t appear to be a clear improvement.

Now the criticism is intensifying. Reports indicate there were already worries in Pittsburgh about Jarry’s work ethic and how hard he was competing when things started to go wrong.

It’s also mentioned that Bob Stauffer suggested towards the end of the regular season that some of Jarry’s Oilers teammates seemed unhappy with his effort during practice.

This led into Game 4, where Jarry finally got the chance to play after sitting out the first three games against Anaheim. He let in 4 goals on 38 shots in a 4-3 overtime defeat.

To make it worse, it started to be talked about more that the Penguins also had concerns about Jarry’s effort and how much he competes.

He wasn’t labeled as a lazy player, but his drive didn’t seem as strong as you would expect from someone in the NHL. When Jarry began having difficulties, his level of competition became a point of frustration for the Penguins team.

Any expectations that being part of a team that aims to win immediately would improve the work ethic has not happened. Toward the end of the regular season, Bob Stauffer noted that some of Jarry’s teammates on the Oilers seem unhappy with the level of effort they noticed from him during practice.

This level of effort, or more accurately, the lack of it, has also shown up in the games. – Rupert M.

Oilers faced a troubling setback after a crucial game.

This is where things took a significant turn. Ex-NHL goalie Stephen Valiquette did not start by blaming bad luck or team mistakes.

He commented that it “seems like he’s not competing at a high standard,” and then went on to analyze Jarry’s footwork, angles, and timing in very harsh detail.

Valiquette’s main point was that Jarry was slow to react not just because the game was fast-paced, but also because his preparation wasn’t good enough before the shot was taken.

This is a tough conclusion to hear about a 30-year-old goalie who has already played 326 career games. The message is clear: he is not a young player still figuring things out.

And that is what should worry Edmonton the most. Issues with skills are one thing, but doubts about effort are completely different.

If Jarry plays for the Oilers next season, this problem will still be a big topic. It will only get louder every time he struggles in goal again.
