Michael McCarron didn’t hold back his thoughts.
When asked about a hit from Josh Manson during his break-time chat with P. K. Subban on ESPN, the Wild player called the Avalanche defender “a dirty player” and expressed that he was “glad he’s still playing” in Game 4. Dylan Loucks from The Hockey News shared the entire comment:
The problems began right away. McCarron hit Manson hard against the boards, and as Manson fell, he jabbed the back of his stick into McCarron’s ear. Referees Trevor Hanson and Jean Hebert looked at the play for a five-minute major penalty but decided on a double minor for trying to butt-end under NHL Rule 58.5. A real butt-end can lead to a five-minute major penalty and being kicked out of the game.
Check out the video of what made McCarron angry:
Minnesota took advantage of the four-minute power play. Later in the period, Danila Yurov redirected a shot from Brock Faber past Mackenzie Blackwood to put the Wild ahead 1-0 before the break.
Manson was playing in his first game of the series after being injured for the first three games, and his return coincided with the Department of Player Safety reviewing a video clip. The 34-year-old defenseman has a history of playing aggressively, and McCarron clearly remembers that.
The Wild won Game 3 impressively, getting themselves back into the series, and McCarron’s comment about being “happy he’s still in the game” feels less like a fired-up remark and more like a warning. He and Manson will be facing each other often for the rest of this series, and one of them is definitely keeping track.
