Adrian Newey grins after cheeky Ferrari request as he copies Lewis Hamilton gesture

Adrian Newey has been frequently mentioned in connection with a potential move to Ferrari.

As he prepares to leave his role as Red Bull’s chief technology officer at the start of 2025, Newey has been rumored to possibly join forces with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. This speculation has been fueled by the mutual interest both Newey and Hamilton have expressed in working together, an ambition that might come to fruition alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and team principal Frederic Vasseur.

Although there’s no official word on Newey’s next steps, he may have dropped a subtle hint about his future in motorsport. During the Monaco Grand Prix, a video captured Newey signing Ferrari merchandise for a group of fans. When asked directly if he wanted to join Ferrari, Newey did not respond verbally but smiled broadly before walking away.

This incident occurred shortly after Hamilton was seen signing a Ferrari cap, an exchange made more intriguing as Mercedes’ Toto Wolff passed by on his scooter. While Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is confirmed, it remains uncertain if Newey will accompany him. Newey, highly esteemed in the motorsport community, has also been linked to McLaren, Mercedes, Alpine, and Aston Martin.

Hamilton has expressed that working with Newey would be a “privilege,” highlighting Newey’s impressive career and the value he could bring to any team. “If I was to do a list of people I would love to work with, he would absolutely be at the top of it,” Hamilton said at the Miami Grand Prix. “Adrian has such a great history, track record, he has done an amazing job throughout his career, engaging with teams, the knowledge that he has. It would be a privilege to work with him.”

Adrian Newey expressed his appreciation for the compliments from the seven-time world champion, describing them as flattering. “It’s very kind of Lewis to say that,” Newey mentioned to Sky Sports. “I’m quite flattered. Right now, I’m just taking a bit of a break and seeing what comes next.”

Interestingly, while considering his future options, Newey did not dismiss the possibility of joining Ferrari when asked by a group of fans.
