Very sad news for the NHL player who got hurt by Tom Wilson at the Olympics.
The National Hockey League has been wary about sending players to the Winter Olympics lately. One big reason for this is the worry about players getting injured.

This week gave us a clear example of this when two NHL stars collided, leading to an injury. In a game on Friday between Canada and Switzerland, Kevin Fiala, a forward for the Los Angeles Kings, got hurt while playing for his country, Switzerland. Ironically, it was Tom Wilson, a forward for the Washington Capitals and also an NHL star, who caused Fiala’s injury with what looked like a light hit.

The hit itself wasn’t very hard, but unfortunately for both players, Wilson fell awkwardly onto Fiala’s leg. Fiala looked like he was in a lot of pain and couldn’t get up by himself, so they brought out a stretcher to take him off the ice.
Fiala was taken to the hospital because of the injury, and we now know that itโs quite serious.
One update from last night: Kevin Fiala is having surgery this morning in Italy.
No clarity yet on exact injury, but, unfortunately, it will be season-ending. All the best to him in his recovery.

Sadly, the news has gotten worse. NHL expert Elliotte Friedman reported some really bad updates about Fiala on Saturday morning. Friedman stated that Fiala will have to sit out the whole Olympic tournament and the rest of the NHL season because of this injury, indicating that it is a major problem.
