The Chicago Blackhawks have brought in a new goalie for the rest of the season.
Chicago shared that they have signed goalie Olivier Rodrigue to a two-way deal.
Rodrigue was picked in the second round by the Edmonton Oilers during the 2018 NHL Draft.
He has played two NHL games in the 2024-25 season, with a goals against average of 3.10 and a save percentage of 86.2 in that short time.
Before this, Rodrigue spent his time playing in the minor leagues for both AHL Bakersfield and ECHL Wichita.
Last season, with Bakersfield, Rodrigue had a goals against average of 3.12 and a save percentage of 89.7.
Over the summer, Rodrigue was a free agent and signed with Barys Astana in the KHL.
He got injured early on and didn’t have the chance to play in any KHL games. However, it seems he is healthy now since he received this contract.
The Blackhawks recently suspended AHL goalie Stanislav Berezhnoy for 20 games because he broke the league’s rules about performance-enhancing drugs.
They were in need of a goalie, and Rodrigue was a great choice. He is expected to be the backup in the AHL if he successfully makes it through waivers to be sent to that level.
This is a great opportunity for Rodrigue to show the coaching staff what he can do and possibly earn another contract for next season.
