Done Deal: Mackenzie Weegar also traded in major deal!

When the dominoes begin to fall. .

Right after people in the know said that defenseman Colton Parayko was close to being traded from the St. Louis Blues to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday, another defenseman was also moving.

As per insider Elliotte Friedman, the Calgary Flames and the Utah Mammoth were nearing a deal for MacKenzie Weegar, waiting for his go-ahead.

Later, Frank Seravalli mentioned that Olli Maatta would be part of the trade from Utah to Calgary.

It was emphasized from the beginning that Weegar needed to agree to give up his clause for the trade to happen. Finally, later on Wednesday night, he agreed, and here is the trade package for Utah to bring in Weegar:

The Flames got Weegar from the Florida Panthers in July 2022 as part of the deal for Matthew Tkachuk. They gave him an eight-year contract worth $6.25 million per year before he had played any games for them. He is set to be a free agent at the end of the 2030-31 season.

Weegar, who is 32, has scored three goals and collected 20 points in 60 games with the Flames this season while averaging 23 minutes and 7 seconds of ice time.
