The Edmonton Oilers recently made a change to their team. Head coach Kris Knoblauch decided to send Josh Samanski, a forward, down to the Bakersfield Condors.
The NHL trade deadline ended on Friday. The team decided on their roster filled with experienced players for the upcoming important games.
This decision meant that the 23-year-old forward from Germany wasn’t going to stay on the team and is heading back to the American Hockey League right away.
Samanski got a short chance to play in the NHL this winter. He played in six games at Rogers Place during the regular season. Sadly, that opportunity won’t last much longer.
During his short time on the team, he got two assists while playing on the fourth line. However, the rookie did not score any goals while facing tough defenses.
The fast pace of the NHL can be really tough for a young player trying to grow. A young center really needs to get to play in real games, rather than just sitting on the bench or playing limited minutes on the third line.
This move to send him down is focused on helping him grow and build a strong start to his professional career.
Heading to Bakersfield for More Playing Time
In Bakersfield, Samanski will get the chance to lead the offense. He has already scored an impressive 31 points in 44 games with the Condors this season.
This kind of offensive performance is just what the management is looking for. He really excels when he is in charge of the gameplay and controls the puck.
The Oilers brought in more experienced players during the trade deadline to improve their chances in the playoffs. The defense and the entire forward group are now set for a strong push for the Stanley Cup.

Keeping Samanski in the press box munching on popcorn didn’t help his progress at all. He needs to be on the ice for important minutes and lead the power play every night.
The Condors are getting ready for a serious playoff run in the Pacific Division. Samanski will jump right back in as their main center.
He brings sharp passing and solid defensive skills to the AHL. His quick transition play is exactly what Bakersfield really needs in the middle of the ice.
Throughout his NHL career so far, he has shown that he can compete physically with the best players and fit in well. Now, he needs to gain a lot of confidence and improve his overall game.
You can count on him to return to training camp prepared to earn a spot on the team for good next September. In the meantime, he will be focused on scoring goals and winning important faceoffs in sunny California.
