GM Stan Bowman reveals final Oilers trade deadline plan

The team lineup is set for captain Connor McDavid and head coach Kris Knoblauch before Friday.

On Thursday afternoon, Edmonton Oilers’ general manager Stan Bowman doused any big trade hopes that the excited fans had.

Speaking to the press just a day before the deadline, Bowman made it very clear what his plans were for everyone following the team’s moves.

Fans might not enjoy Bowman’s message, but they shouldn’t be too unhappy about his actions at this year’s trade deadline.

“When we talked to the reporters about it, I said, ‘This is probably our team,'” Bowman said directly when asked about the roster limit coming on Friday.

The experienced manager did suggest that there might be a small change coming, mentioning that a minor move could happen.

However, he clearly said he doesn’t expect anything big to happen. Fans hoping for a big event on Friday are going to be let down.

The truth is that all the major decisions have already been made in Northern Alberta. Management took their big steps earlier this week.

Strengthening The Team

Bowman worked hard in the trade market a few days ago to fix clear issues in defense and strengthen the current team for a successful run in the spring.

The smart trade for experienced defenseman Connor Murphy provides essential toughness to a defense that needed a strong player.

Murphy is specifically made for the tough playoff battles. He plays over 19 minutes on average per game, consistently blocks shots and effectively clears the area in front of the goal.
The front office also worked hard to improve the forward players in the bottom six by signing experienced player Jason Dickinson who might really strengthen the third line.

Dickinson plays a smart game on both offense and defense and is often used a lot during penalty kills.

These kinds of tough, quiet signings are exactly what can help a strong team in the Western Conference take it to the next level during tough playoff battles.

Edmonton didn’t really have to give up their future draft picks for another big-name player to provide scoring every game.

The team currently has top-notch scoring ability and a new defensive setup that could really help them compete for the Stanley Cup this season.
