Heartbreaking: Red Sox favorite RHP announced to miss remainder of 2024

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock announced on Saturday that he will miss the rest of the season to undergo an elbow surgery.

The 27-year-old is scheduled for an internal brace procedure, which has a recovery time of one year, shorter than the 15-month recovery typically required for Tommy John surgery. Whitlock previously had Tommy John surgery in 2019 while in the New York Yankees’ minor league system.

Whitlock was placed on the injured list in April due to an oblique injury. This season, he made only four starts, posting a 1-0 record with a 1.96 ERA over 18 1/3 innings, with his last game appearance on April 16.

Throughout his four seasons with the Red Sox, Whitlock has compiled an 18-11 record with a 3.39 ERA across 103 games, including 23 starts.
