History for McDavid: Breaks Olympic NHL-Era Record

Connor McDavid breaks the Olympic record in the NHL by scoring 12 points in just one Winter Games tournament. Find out more!

Connor McDavid has made history by getting the most points in a single Winter Olympics tournament for NHL players! He has surpassed the previous record held by Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu, who both scored 11 points in 2006.

In the men’s hockey semifinal against Finland during Milano Cortina 2026 on February 20, 2026, McDavid earned his 12th point of the tournament by assisting Sam Reinhart’s power-play goal in the second period. This goal, where Reinhart tipped the puck in from a shot by Cale Makar, brought Finland’s lead down to 2-1 and helped McDavid break the old record.

Before the semifinal, McDavid had already scored 11 points (with 2 goals and 9 assists) in four games, tying the record for most points in a single Olympics from the NHL era. He got two assists in Canada’s 4-3 overtime victory against Czechia. He achieved this as captain since Sidney Crosby was out with an injury.

This is McDavid’s first time competing in the Olympics, and he’s definitely stood out, playing at a level that might even amaze his biggest fans.

At this point, Canada is behind Finland 2-1 late in the second period, after Bennett’s penalty led to Finland’s power-play goal and Haula’s shorthanded goal. However, with McDavid’s playmaking skills, Team Canada still has a shot at winning. They have 20 minutes left to even the score.
