Its Official: NHL insider reports Oilers closing in a deal on New forward signing ahead of deadline date

According to recent updates from NHL expert David Pagnotta, the Oilers plan to complete a trade for Andrew Mangiapane within the next ten days.

Since January 1st, Mangiapane has often been left out of the Oilers’ lineup due to word that GM Stan Bowman is working with his agent to make a trade happen. With the deadline on March 6th approaching, the Oilers are pushing harder to get him traded.

Reports from NHL insiders reveal that the Oilers are talking with Mangiapane, and they aim to complete the trade before the March 6th deadline.

Mangiapane signed a two-year deal with the Oilers for $3.6 million each year, but he hasn’t really fit in with the team. Even though he has a no-move clause, he is ready to give that up so he can have a new start on another team.

Sadly, the Oilers may need to include extra players or picks to entice another team to take Mangiapane and the second year of his deal.

Some experts believe the Oilers might have to give up a third-round draft pick to trade Mangiapane.

This season, in 49 games with the Oilers, the 29-year-old Mangiapane has only managed to score 6 goals and get 12 points.

He began the season as one of the team’s top forwards, but as time went on, he dropped down the lineup and ended up not playing in many games.

Right now, Mangiapane is not providing enough value to make his contract worthwhile, and the $3.6 million he counts against the salary cap limits what the Oilers can do to add new players before the deadline.

Clearing his entire contract by giving up a piece could be beneficial for the Oilers this season since it would allow them more flexibility to bring in other players.

Hopefully, the Oilers will manage to trade Mangiapane this week without giving up too much, but just getting him off the team will be a win.
