Lewis Hamilton: “I’m not leaving because of relationship issues”

“Despite my departure, I want to clarify that it’s not because I’m dissatisfied with Mercedes,” Lewis Hamilton asserts.

Exiting his tenure with the team that propelled him to six out of seven F1 championships, Hamilton gears up for a notable shift to Ferrari in the forthcoming season.

Following the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where his quest for an eighth title took a contentious turn, Hamilton found himself struggling to keep pace with Red Bull, particularly Max Verstappen, who is eyeing his fourth consecutive championship.

In an interview with CBS, Hamilton expressed the emotional complexity of his decision: “This journey has been incredibly significant for me. My attachment to this team runs deep. It’s not about discontent or personal issues. Mercedes has stood by me through thick and thin. So, this transition feels bittersweet.”

He emphasized the team’s ethos of winning and the necessity to adapt when faced with challenges. “Our purpose is to win. When we fall short, we must recalibrate, evolve, and strive for improvement. Engaging the team in this process is something I relish,” Hamilton remarked.

However, after three years of grappling with setbacks, he feels compelled to seek a return to winning form: “I’ve reached a point where I yearn for our former glory. It’s time to reclaim our position.”

The recent F1 Miami Grand Prix underscored the struggles of Hamilton and his Mercedes, with the driver conceding to the limitations of their car’s performance. Hamilton currently languishes in ninth place in the standings, trailing Verstappen by a substantial margin.

Yet, with a move to Ferrari on the horizon for 2025, Hamilton anticipates a resurgence in his championship aspirations. Stepping into his fourth decade, he aims to revive his pursuit of glory donning the iconic colors of F1’s most storied team.
