Minor Lines: Marcelo Mayer Hits Fifth Homer of the Season

Josh Winckowski is continuing to adjust and expand his role in Worcester.

Happy Monday! I attended game 1 of the Red Sox series at Camden Yards in Baltimore and wrote this after 3 AM, so please excuse the brevity. Let’s dive in!

Ryan Zeferjahn is finally showing some vulnerability after strong performances since his promotion, while Josh Winckowski seems to be finding his stride in his new, expanded role. The bats were lively, with four home runs, including two from Eddy Alvarez. Unfortunately, three of those were solo shots, which wasn’t enough to secure a win against the Tides (Orioles AAA); Bobby Dalbec striking out five times certainly didn’t help.

Don’t worry: Roman Anthony reportedly had a scheduled day off. Marcelo Mayer stepped up with a solo home run in the first inning, his fifth of the season. However, the offense didn’t offer much more against the Yard Goats, and Chih-Jung Liu struggled early.

Kristian Campbell delivered with two clutch hits, including a two-run homer that brought the game within one run, but it wasn’t enough. It was an uneventful game overall, with the Drive giving up three home runs but also racking up ten strikeouts over eight innings.

Michael Sansone is finding his groove, delivering four innings of work with only four hits and one run, keeping the Woodpeckers (Astros A) in check. The Sox capitalized with four hits with runners in scoring position, managing to secure a win through timely singles. The method may have been simple, but a win is what counts.
