The Edmonton Oilers seem to be getting ready to make a trade.
NHL insider Frank Seravalli says that Andrew Mangiapane is likely to be traded in the “next three to four days,” with this news shared on Monday.
The NHL trade deadline is on March 6, which is less than two weeks away, but it looks like the Oilers might not need to wait that long to finalize a trade.
Mangiapane’s contract costs $3.6 million until the end of the 2026-27 season.
In the past, he would have been worth that amount.
This year, that isn’t really the case.
“It just hasn’t worked in Edmonton,” wrote Matt Larkin from Daily Faceoff at the end of January.
Mangiapane has moved down the lineup, has been a healthy scratch, and even had his agent ask for permission to help find a trade for him.
According to Seravalli, the contract hasn’t been easy to trade, but it seems like progress is being made.
A team that trades for him might think that a new environment could help Mangiapane improve.
The Oilers probably can’t expect to get much in return, but if they can get rid of Mangiapane’s contract now instead of later, it might actually be a good move for them.
