Oilers Prospect Update: Condors win three out of their last four

After losing to the San Jose Barracuda on the 24th, the Bakersfield Condors played against Henderson on the 28th, where they lost 2-1, making it three losses in a row for them.

Luckily, they managed to break that losing streak when they faced the Abbotsford Canucks for two games at home. The Condors won both matches with a total score of 10-4. Connor Ungar had an impressive game on the 31st, leading the team to a 3-2 victory. The former Brock University player saved 51 out of 53 shots, and without his skills, the Condors would have struggled to keep up. As February began, Bakersfield won against the Calgary Wranglers in overtime on Tuesday, finishing the game 3-2, with Isaac Howard contributing significantly, including scoring the winning goal in overtime.

Before playing the Wranglers, the Condors were missing several players: Cam Dineen, Beau Akey, Atro Leppänen, Connor Clattenburg, Josh Samanski (who is with Edmonton and about to go to the Olympics), and also Max Jones, who couldn’t play against Calgary. The injuries were hurting Bakersfield’s performance, affecting how they played. From the game against the Silver Knights to the second game against Abbotsford (three games total), they let in an average of 45 shots per game, but still managed to win two out of those three. Luckily, this pattern of facing over 40 shots each game ended when they won in overtime against Calgary. One big change I noticed in the team was their focus on keeping a forward higher up the ice. Too frequently, the Condors allowed too many odd-man rushes, and letting 45 shots happen per game is not a good way to win consistently.

Isaac Howard – Winger
In the four games since the last update, Howard found the net two times and helped with three assists. The former Hobey Baker winner now has 12 goals and 16 assists in 20 games. At the AHL level, Isaac Howard is a threat every time he steps on the ice. Not only is his shot as good as people say, but he is starting to notice passing opportunities faster.
