Oilers trade for $68 Million forward

The Edmonton Oilers are in dire need of top offensive players. Head coach Kris Knoblauch is looking for a star player, and Filip Forsberg would be a great choice.

On his podcast this Wednesday, former Oiler Ryan Whitney made a bold suggestion. He thinks his old team should go all in and try to get the Swedish player right away. This could be a game-changing move for the Oilers.

The Nashville Predators are officially starting to break down their team. There’s a big sale happening in Nashville, and general manager Barry Trotz is open to trading anyone.

Forsberg has a big and long contract. He signed a $68 million deal in 2022 and wants to play on a strong team that has a chance to win.

Taking on his $8.5 million salary cap hit is a big challenge for any team looking to win. But Edmonton really needs more scoring behind their stars, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

With 26 goals and 49 points this season, Forsberg is still one of the best goal scorers around. He is carrying the struggling Nashville offense all on his own.

The 31-year-old has already taken 187 shots on goal this season. Throughout his career, his scoring has been very steady, showing he is exactly the type of player that Edmonton needs.

A Great Fit for Edmonton

Whitney knows a lot about the Edmonton market. He sees the enormous pressure of playing in Northern Alberta and believes Forsberg has the right mindset to be successful there.

Bringing in Forsberg would instantly improve the Oilers’ fast break plays. His smooth puck skills in the neutral zone confuse opposing defenses every game.

Adding a player who shoots this often would bring Edmonton much closer to winning a Stanley Cup. They have the draft picks and young players needed to make this trade work.
Nashville is looking for first-round draft picks and top talent to help them rebuild their team. The Oilers have a limited time to compete for a championship and need to give up some of their future goals for success in the playoffs right now.

Picture Forsberg playing on the power play with Draisaitl and Zach Hyman. Their fast and accurate passing would break down the other team’s defense and ensure great results.

The trade deadline is approaching quickly. Edmonton can’t just sit back and do nothing while their rivals in the Pacific Division are busy improving their teams for the playoffs.

Getting the Swedish player away from Nashville will require a huge trade deal. However, Whitney is completely on point with this bold idea.
