Paul Maurice shares bad news regarding Brad Marchand.

Is Brad Marchand finished for the season?

The Florida Panthers might start resting some of their older players.

On Monday, the head coach of the Panthers, Paul Maurice, said that veteran player Brad Marchand will be talking to doctors and is not playing for now. The Panthers are scheduled to play the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, and Maurice confirmed Marchand won’t be in that game, hinting it could be longer than just that.

While the Panthers are not officially out of the playoff race, they are 11 points behind the Boston Bruins for the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, making it very unlikely for them to make it. This is just my guess, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the Panthers decided to rest some of their older players as they look to come back with a healthier team next season.

Marchand had a lot on his plate this season since players like Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov were hurt, so he scored 27 goals and had 27 assists for a total of 54 points in only 52 games.

At 37 years old, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Panthers choose to shut him down to keep him ready for next season.
