Sidney Crosby talks about the sad reason he missed the biggest game of his life.
Canadians were really upset on Sunday when they found out that Sidney Crosby, the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, would not be playing in the Gold Medal game because he got hurt earlier in the tournament.
Their sadness grew even more when Team Canada couldn’t win the Gold Medal, losing in overtime to Team USA with a score of 2-1.
Crosby said right after the game that it was tough for him to watch from the sidelines. What made it even harder was the choice that led him there in the first place. During a press conference after the game, Crosby was asked about this tough decision to not play and if he thought about the fact that this could be his last chance in the Olympics. Crosby made it clear that he made a big sacrifice for his country by deciding not to participate in the Gold Medal game.
“It might have crossed my mind a little bit, but in the end, I think it was more about what was best for the team and what gave us the best chance to win. At that moment, it was pretty clear,” Crosby explained to TSN. “If I’m not able to play, I won’t risk hurting the team or put myself before the group. It might have crossed my mind, but that’s not how you should make your choice. ”
It might sound a bit typical, but this is exactly the kind of unselfish choice you would expect from Crosby, considering his history in hockey, and this is why so many people in the hockey world admire him so much.
