Connor McDavid looked super fast in Team Canada’s first match, making a big impact on the scoreboard and playing aggressively.
Everyone thought McDavid would give it his all for the Olympics, especially after he wrote an emotional letter to hockey fans. It wasn’t surprising that he got 3 points, but his big hit to set the tone was unexpected.
Team Canada players respond to McDavid’s strong start against Czechia.
Brad Marchand: “Great hit, Willy, on the first shift.”
Tom Wilson: “I didn’t hit anybody. That was Connor.”

In his first time on the ice during the game, McDavid came in strong and made one of the biggest hits of his career. He rushed down the side and slammed into Czech player Lukas Sedlak.
Having the best player on the team involved in the tough play right from the start shows what we can expect from McDavid. He’s playing every game like it’s the final match, which makes it really hard for the other teams.
This mix of talent, speed, and toughness is what Canadian hockey is all about.
However, it was a bit shocking to see such a skilled player start the tournament with a big hit. His teammate Brad Marchand mentioned that he praised Tom Wilson for the hit after the shift, only for Wilson to respond, “That was Connor. ”
McDavid is stepping up his game in his strong chase for a gold medal. As the captain of the Oilers said in his letter, he really just wants to win something again. As the tournament continues towards the final, he’s likely to get even better and possibly make more big hits.
