The Los Angeles Kings might be interested in bringing back a player who used to be with the Edmonton Oilers, if he is available.
Even though the NHL is on break for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, talk about the Edmonton Oilers doesn’t stop.
After making a huge trade by getting star player Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings’ general manager Ken Holland talked to the press. During this conversation, he suggested that he might make some trades once the NHL’s trade freeze ends after the Olympics.
According to NHL expert Elliotte Friedman in his latest 32 Thoughts blog, Holland mentioned Warren Foegele, who hasn’t been playing recently, as someone he may need to get rid of.
It would be interesting for the Oilers to think about bringing back a former player, especially because they need to find a good forward before the trade deadline.
Foegele could be an interesting buy-low target… Healthy scratch in LA. Production has crashed but has a 5% on-ice shooting %. Was terrific last season, does a lot of stuff, and still provides great defensive+PK value. Not cost prohibitive either. pic.twitter.com/hEj4TLX4ff

Why bringing back Foegele might be a good idea
If Oilers’ general manager Stan Bowman decides to go after Warren Foegele, returning to a former player could make sense. Foegele is already familiar with many of the team’s main players and the head coach, Kris Knoblauch, who has been criticized lately for not trusting enough players.
Foegele also has a contract that isn’t too expensive, costing $3.5 million a year until the next season. This means the Oilers could trade Andrew Mangiapane, who is rumored to be available, to another team and easily get Foegele back, who makes just $100,000 less.
Additionally, getting him shouldn’t cost too much. As Friedman notes, since Foegele has not been playing, the Kings don’t have much power in negotiations.
Could Foegele be the solution for the Oilers’ forward needs?
NEXT: Oilers Rumours: Insider thinks the Oilers might make changes. . .
According to Jfresh on X, Foegele’s recent absence from games shouldn’t stop a team like the Oilers from considering him. Even though he has only scored eight points (six goals and two assists) in 43 games, he could be a great option to buy at a lower price.
He just finished two seasons in a row where he scored more points than ever before. He put up 41 points, which includes 20 goals and 21 assists, playing 82 games with the Oilers in 2023-24. After that, he signed a three-year deal with the Kings worth $3.5 million each year. With his new team, he actually did better, getting 46 points with 24 goals and 22 assists over 82 games.
Besides his impressive scoring, Foegele is the kind of player the Oilers really want. He’s tall, tough, and has some good skills on defense, plus he can help out in scoring. If he can get his goal-scoring back, he might really help the Oilers as the season ends and when the playoffs start.
He’s also flexible, able to play in various spots, either on the top two lines or on the third line. This is the exact kind of player the Oilers need, and it seems like they are looking for players like him.
