Insider Bob Stauffer is saying that the Edmonton Oilers won’t make any quick changes to their coaching team, but they might add someone new.
Recently, Leon Draisaitl criticized the coaching staff for a list of problems the Oilers are facing. The defense isn’t performing as well as it should, and Coach Knoblauch isn’t getting good results from the players who don’t play as much. Making a change in coaching might help improve the rest of the season.
Bob Stauffer, who knows a lot about the Oilers, mentions that Knoblauch won’t be let go but suggests that there could be an addition to the coaching team.
In the latest episode of OilersNow, Stauffer was directly asked if Knoblauch would lose his job during the break, and he said no. However, he did point out that they might bring someone new on board.
I’m going to tell you that’s not going to be the case. At least not over the course of the next few weeks. I mean, come on!
Only one man can fix the Edmonton Oilers now.
Make the call Katz.

While discussing the coaching staff for this season, Stauffer pointed out that the Oilers have one less coach compared to last year. They might be lacking an important new voice on the bench, and he also mentioned how Paul Coffey positively influenced the team last season.
They currently only have three coaches on the bench, and Mark Stuart is juggling two roles, handling the penalty kill and the defense. The situation isn’t looking good at the moment.
The Oilers might be the top team in the league for power plays, but they have fallen to 27th place for penalty kills. They might be scoring a lot of goals, ranking fourth in that category, but they are 26th in goals allowed. It is clear what they need to work on.

Paul Coffey is still being paid by the Oilers and is now a special advisor to the owner, Daryl Katz. It was suggested that Coffey was thinking of stepping back from his on-ice role, but he is still part of the organization and might have some unfinished business to address from the last couple of years.
Bringing Coffey onto the coaching team would provide the Oilers with the guidance they’ve lacked and help strengthen their defense like it was last year. Instead of replacing any of the main coaches, considering Coffey for the role seems like a good idea, and many fans support it.
There might be other choices too, such as bringing veteran coach Pete DeBoer onto the team. However, choosing someone familiar from within the organization seems like a better option.
We’ll find out if the Oilers can persuade their legendary player to leave the press box and rejoin the team in the locker room.
