There is a lot of excitement building up for the Gold Medal game in the Men’s Hockey Tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where Canada will compete against the United States.
This will be a rematch of the final from the Four Nations Face-Off held in 2025. While hockey fans all over the world are ready to watch, some people are trying to make this game about more than just winning. A good example of this was when hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was asked about the political issues between the two nations. Gretzky responded with the poise and elegance one would expect from someone called The Great One.

“First off, let’s focus on the game,” Gretzky said during CBC’s Olympic coverage. “Thatâs what truly matters. ”
He then shared his personal feelings about the game, showing where his loyalties lie.
“Iâm a hockey player, Iâm Canadian, and I really want Canada to win a Gold Medal,” Gretzky stated.
However, Gretzky didnât share this to promote Canada over the U. S., but to convey a bigger idea he wanted to share with viewers. A message of togetherness.
“There are definitely more tensions than usual, but in the end, Canada and the USA are like siblings,” Gretzky explained. “They might argue and disagree, but in the end, they always come back together, and thatâs how I see it.”
