Edmonton Oilers announced a coaching change during the middle of the week

The Edmonton Oilers might be thinking about changing their coach soon after they lost to the Calgary Flames, as heard from people who know inside information about the NHL.

This week, Knoblauch and the Oilers’ coaching group have been feeling a lot of pressure because several problems with the team have become serious. The penalty kill is really bad, the defense isn’t as good as it should be, and players who aren’t in the starting lineup are having a hard time fitting in.

Several insiders are saying that the coaching staff for the Oilers could be in trouble. On the most recent episode of the Barn Burner Podcast, TSN insider Darren Dreger mentioned that Coach Knoblauch is facing more questions about how secure his job is.

I think the pressure on Knoblauch will keep increasing from now on.

People are talking about it, but I’m not saying a change is definitely going to happen. However, considering the time off and how the Oilers are doing in the standings, I believe the conversations about this will grow.

During the radio show, insider Bob Stauffer pointed out that tonight’s game could be more crucial than it seems, and he strongly criticized how the Oilers organize their penalty kill.

As these issues are becoming quite serious, one coaching change that could help is letting go of coach Mark Stuart. He’s in charge of the defense and penalty kill, and those areas aren’t doing well.

With Leon Draisaitl now pointing out problems with the coaching team, there may be even more pressure to make some changes.

It’s interesting to note that Coach Knoblauch was not hired by the current general manager, Stan Bowman. NHL general managers usually like to work with the coaches they choose rather than keeping the ones that are already there.
Knoblauch is likely okay for now due to his impressive playoff history from the previous two years and the news that he is about to sign a new contract.

However, everything could change if the team doesn’t do well in the playoffs. In any case, the Oilers’ coaching team is now under official review. Some changes will be necessary, or there will be some sort of adjustments.
