After news broke on Friday that equipment manager Teddy Richards had been arrested on several accusations, the Florida Panthers have moved fast to suspend him.

Richards has worked for the Florida Panthers equipment team for a long time, starting with the 2016–17 National Hockey League season.

As of Friday evening, bond had not been established, and Richards was being kept in the Broward Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Details of Richard’s arrest on Friday for unauthorized use of 911 services and Touch or Strike/Battery/Domestic Violence were swiftly made public on social media.

In 2016, Richards, who had spent a number of years with the Penguins and their Wilkes/Barre-Scranton American Hockey League affiliate, won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins after previously winning two Stanley Cups with the Panthers. He has had a lengthy career in hockey overall and in the NHL. He most recently worked as a member of the equipment team for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face Off, the 2026 IIHF World Championship, and the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, where Team USA eventually won the Gold Medal.

Upon learning about his detention, the Panthers released the following statement:

Teddy Richards, the Equipment Manager, was arrested, and the Florida Panthers company has been informed of the incident.

He will be suspended from all team activities and facilities pending an inquiry, with immediate effect.
