Maple Leafs coach reacts to fans booing at home.
Since coming back from the Olympic break, you could say that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been the least successful team in the whole National Hockey League. In fact, they are the only team that hasn’t won a single game since the Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy ended.
On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs lost their seventh game in a row, having a record of 0 wins, 5 losses, and 2 ties since their return from the break. It was no surprise that their local fans voiced their frustration as the players skated off the ice after losing 5-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The team was met with a loud mix of boos from fans who are clearly losing faith in this Maple Leafs squad.
After the game, Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube was asked about the boos and what he thought about fans showing their frustration this way. Berube handled it well by not blaming the fans and instead showed understanding for those who have spent a lot of money to watch a team that hasn’t been performing well recently.
“Hey, they pay a lot to see us play and they want to win just like we do,” said Berube, making it clear he didn’t blame the Toronto fans. “That’s just part of the game everywhere. ”
If the team keeps playing the way they have been, the Maple Leafs can surely expect more boos from the crowd.
