Aroldis Chapman and the Pittsburgh Pirates are said to have reached an agreement for a one-year contract.

Next season, an NL Central opponent will welcome a member of the Chicago Cubs, the 2016 World Champions, back to Wrigley Field.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Aroldis Chapman, who played for both the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals in the previous season, reached an agreement on Monday to a one-year, $10.5 million contract, according to numerous sources.

Chapman spent just half of the Cubs season, but it was filled with highlights. In order to acquire Chapman for their postseason push, the Cubs surrendered Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, Adam Warren, and Rashad Crawford to the New York Yankees. They had their sights set on a possible world championship.

He was 1-1 with a 1.01 ERA in 28 games with 16 saves during the Chicago regular season. Every nine innings, he struck out 15.5% of the hitters.

In the postseason, he tied and broke Division Series records in the NL Division Series by converting three saves out of four opportunities.

Even though he failed to convert a save in the opening game of the NL Championship Series, he recovered to make four appearances and pitch the last 2.3 innings of relief in Game 6 to secure a trip to the World Series.

In Game 5, with the Cubs facing elimination, Chapman came up huge in the World Series, throwing three innings to preserve that victory. He pitched two innings in Game 6 to secure a 9-3 victory. Then, in Game 7, despite missing the save opportunity, he forced extra innings by holding the Cubs to a tie in the ninth inning. The Cubs went on to win the game.

He had a 3.72 ERA in 20 appearances and four saves in 29 innings while with the Rangers, going 2-3. In 16 walks, he struck out 50 times.

In the postseason he made nine appearances, throwing eight innings while striking out six and walking five. He won his second World Series ring with the Rangers.
