Former Red Sox Ryan Brasier has ‘talked’ in free agency with Yankees (report)

According to a recent report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, former Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier has “talked” with the Yankees, who are interested in signing him as a free agent.

The right-hander, 36, is still unsigned despite having a strong season with the Dodgers. After Brasier was released by Boston on May 14 and went unclaimed on waivers, Los Angeles signed him to a minor-level contract on June 4.

With the Dodgers, Brasier made 39 appearances and recorded a 0.70 ERA (38 ⅔ innings, three earned runs) and 0.72 WHIP. He was only batting.140 against his opponents.

Brasier’s change of heart occurred after the Dodgers pushed for the addition of a cutter.

When the Dodgers came in town to play Boston in August, Brasier told MassLive, “I’m just working on the cutter and getting my slider where I want it.” But I’m just attempting to use my finest material to pound the strike zone. The outcomes come when they come, but the main goal is to fill the zone.

Between 2018 and 23, Brasier played in 222 regular season games (209 ⅔ innings) for Boston, compiling a 4.55 ERA.

He was essential to the winning squad in 2018. In 34 regular season games, he recorded a 1.60 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. Over the course of nine postseason games, he gave up just one run and got five holds in 8 ⅔ innings (1.04 ERA).
