Kansas City Chiefs pick the fastest receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft via trade-up with Buffalo Bills

In a surprising twist during the 2024 Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs defied expectations with their strategic move.

Originally slated for the final pick, the Chiefs orchestrated a trade with the Buffalo Bills, securing the 28th overall pick. While many anticipated they would bolster their offensive line, the Chiefs instead opted for a wide receiver.

Introducing Xavier Worthy, hailing from Texas Tech University, as the dynamic new addition to Patrick Mahomes’ formidable offense.

Meet the Chiefs’ latest addition to their receiving corps.

Coming from a standout college background, Worthy emerged as a standout prospect for the NFL during his freshman year back in 2021. Throughout his collegiate career, he showcased his talent and potential, notably breaking records and earning accolades along the way. His time at Longhorns saw him amass an impressive 62 receptions for 981 yards in his freshman year alone, boasting an average of 15.8 yards per catch and scoring an impressive 12 touchdowns. Over the subsequent two seasons, he continued to impress, ultimately setting a new Longhorns record with 21 touchdown catches.

What sets Worthy apart is his exceptional speed, a trait that turned heads during his time at the NFL Combine. Making history, he shattered the 40-yard dash record with a blazing time of 4.21 seconds, solidifying his status as one of the most electrifying prospects in the draft. With his combination of speed, skill, and proven track record, Worthy promises to be a dynamic addition to the Chiefs’ offensive arsenal, bringing a new level of excitement to the field.

In a remarkable feat of athleticism, the 20-year-old shattered the Olympic record previously held solely by Usain Bolt, with a remarkable time of 4.22 seconds.

Destiny seemed to have paved the way for Worthy’s journey to the Chiefs. In an interview with USA TODAY Sports, Worthy expressed his conviction that Kansas City was the perfect fit for him. He envisioned himself taking on a role similar to that of Tyreek Hill, emphasizing the improvisational style of Patrick Mahomes and the strategic use of players like Hill.

“In an ideal scenario, I’d love to be a part of the Chiefs,” he remarked. “The way Mahomes and the team utilize their players, especially someone like Tyreek Hill, feels tailor-made for my skill set.”

Now, joining the ranks of a potent and explosive receiving corps alongside Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, and Rashee Rice, Worthy adds another dimension to the Chiefs’ offensive arsenal. With Mahomes at the helm, armed with such formidable weapons, the possibility of a historic three-peat becomes increasingly tangible.

Strengths:

Exceptional speed, a defining attribute that sets him apart on the field.
