Lewis Hamilton sends message to former team-mate following open heart surgery update

Former McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen recently underwent open heart surgery to address an ascending aortic aneurysm.

After revealing his diagnosis last month, the Finnish racer, now 42, shared his surgery update on social media, expressing gratitude for the medical team’s care.

The procedure, which involved removing the affected part of the ascending aorta and replacing it with an artificial graft, went according to plan. While recovery is underway, Kovalainen remains optimistic about a full recovery and aims to gradually resume normal activities.

Lewis Hamilton, who raced alongside Kovalainen in the 2008 and 2009 F1 seasons, extended his well wishes for a speedy recovery, joined by Pedro de la Rosa, echoing sentiments for Kovalainen’s swift recuperation.
