Red Sox Slugger Officially Not Coming Back in 2024

Red Sox enthusiasts who were holding out hope for Adam Duvall’s return might need to shift their focus elsewhere.

The Atlanta Braves recently sealed the deal with Duvall for a one-year contract worth $3 million, marking his third stint with the team. Duvall, a key player in the Braves’ 2021 World Series victory, previously donned their jersey from 2018-2020 and 2021-2022.

Speculation had been brewing last month, especially after reports from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic hinted at the Red Sox’s interest in Duvall, among other seasoned outfielders. However, akin to Justin Turner’s situation, who eventually signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, Duvall’s journey took a different turn. Both Duvall and Turner had brief but impactful stints with the Red Sox in 2023, yet neither will grace their roster in 2024.

Duvall’s contributions during his 92 games with the Red Sox last season were notable, clocking in 21 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a batting average of .247. His tenure kicked off with a bang as he smashed three homers and drove in 12 runs in his initial seven games. Unfortunately, his momentum was halted when he suffered a wrist injury attempting a catch on April 9, keeping him sidelined until June 9.

Looking ahead, the Red Sox have charted a different course for their outfield dynamics. With Jarren Duran’s emergence in center field last season, the addition of Tyler O’Neill through an offseason trade, and high hopes pinned on prospects like Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu, the roster space for Duvall seemed limited.
