Rising star will be signed by Red Sox to help with starting rotation

Boston is still being considered as a potential destination for a top free agent starter.

The Boston Red Sox still have an opportunity to shock a few folks this offseason.

Boston has been the focus of speculations for the entire offseason. Other than signing Lucas Giolito and acquiring Tyler O’Neill, the Red Sox haven’t done much. They have some sort of connection to nearly everyone.

The Red Sox are in desperate need of adding depth to their starting rotation, but there have been rumors that the organization won’t shell out the cash required to acquire one of the top free agents still available.

Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell are still the best two pitchers available as free agents. Both want big deals, but it’s unclear what Boston will actually do.

The Red Sox are still connected to Montgomery as a possible pick, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

“I do think that the (Texas Rangers) are the most likely team for Jordan Montgomery still,” Heyman stated. “We’ve been saying for weeks now that Montgomery’s return to the Rangers makes the most sense if they can figure out the TV deal. He was a part of their World Series victory last year. The other team I’ve heard of that has Montgomery is the Cubs.

Red Sox supporters have voiced their feelings about the team’s lack of spending this offseason, but if the team could sign someone like Montgomery, the whole story may change.

The big lefty is a rising talent who has been incredibly consistent over the past few seasons. He was outstanding in the postseason and assisted in leading the Rangers to the World Series the previous year.
