Some positive news after a hard loss today Team USA clearly outplayed Team Canada with a strong 5-0 win in the early rounds of women’s hockey today.
Canada had to play without their captain Marie-Philip Poulin due to an injury from yesterday’s match against Czechia, but it hardly made a difference. The fact is that USA would have still won this game even if Poulin had played for Canada. Honestly, USA would have won even if Poulin, Gretzky, and Orr were on the ice for Canada.
The good news for Canada is that it looks like they’ll have their captain back during this tournament.
Troy Ryan confirms that Team Canada is very optimistic that Poulin will return later in the tournament. Seems unlikely for the Finland game obviously

Canada will finish their early matches on Thursday against Finland, but it seems Poulin won’t be playing.
In today’s game, USA took control from the very first period and never appeared worried about losing.
The Americans started strong in the 1st period and really set the tone for the whole match.
Leading 2-0 at the start of the 2nd period, the Americans scored a goal that some thought was controversial, which really hurt Canada’s chances.
After that goal, it felt like Canada just stopped trying and accepted the heavy loss.
It’ll be interesting to see how Canada bounces back after this big defeat since they are still thought to be a top team for the Gold Medal along with USA.
