It’s easy to feel pumped for a game against Canada when you’re seen as the underdog, especially after Switzerland’s impressive 4-0 victory over France the day before.
“I think we just need to go out there, do our best, compete, and have faith… believe that we’re a strong team,” said Hischier from Switzerland. “Everyone is really excited. I have complete trust in my teammates. We have a fantastic team and we know what we need to do. It’s all about executing. ”
A lot of Switzerland’s confidence comes from their goalie. Leonardo Genoni made 27 saves and kept a clean sheet against France.

He also has a lot of experience on the international stage. At the 2025 World Championships, Genoni received the MVP award and helped Switzerland earn back-to-back silver medals at those championships.
During that MVP season, Leonardo had a record of 5 wins, 0 losses, and 2 ties, with a 0.99 goals against average, a . 953 save percentage, and four shutouts in seven matches.
“Confident and very aware that he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves,” said JJ Moser, “just because he hasn’t played in the NHL. But internationally, he has been one of the top goalies for the past ten years, and he showed that today. ”
Canada has won 14 out of its last 16 games against the best teams and is aiming for win number 15 when they compete against Switzerland today.
