The Edmonton Oilers are facing some big issues this season, and NHL reporter Frank Seravalli didn’t hold back on his thoughts about it.
While talking with Insider Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now, Frank Seravalli criticized the Edmonton Oilers for only winning 28 out of 58 games so far this season. This team really needs to wake up. Let’s be real. I think Leon Draisaitl’s comments were very direct. It’s not only about pointing fingers at the coach. The main point is that time is running out faster than expected.
When you’re ranked 19th and aiming to win the Stanley Cup, that’s not good. As I mentioned, the Oilers are on track for 91 points. . . it’s not just one player or one part of the team that’s a problem. It’s everything together.
Whether you see it as being too comfortable or not acting fast enough, I truly believe that’s the main reason for the Oilers’ difficulties this season.
– Frank Seravalli
Leon Draisaitl recently said that the Edmonton team is struggling and must get better in all areas.
Seravalli seems to agree and thinks the issues come from a general lack of effort and being too comfortable. Still, he also pointed out defenseman Darnell Nurse as a specific problem. “Darnell Nurse is the main issue for this team, from the start to the end. You could stop there. At nine and a quarter million dollars, he needs to have a big impact, but the Oilers are just managing to stay afloat because of him.”
It’s true that Edmonton has had trouble defending. The team often depends on its strong scoring to win games, but when they can’t do it all, their poor defense is the main reason for the losses.
Even Oilers analyst David Staples mentioned something similar in a recent article, this time criticizing players Walman, Regula, and Stastney.
Unfortunately, the habit of leaning on past success and depending on their offense has caused the team to ease up. They might be running out of time to build up their momentum.
However, we saw this happen last year when Edmonton entered the playoffs after being too laid-back in the later games but then switched gears to reach the Finals.
Maybe they will do the same this playoff season too.
