Seth Jarvis — not Oilers’ Zach Hyman — named to Team Canada’s roster as a replacement for Brayden Point

Team Canada needed another player for the 2026 Olympics.

Since Brayden Point can’t play because of an injury, Team Canada chose Seth Jarvis from the Carolina Hurricanes to take his place. This update came two days after Point’s teammate, Anthony Cirelli, got hurt and was replaced by Sam Bennett.

MISE À JOUR | Seth Jarvis s’ajoute à la formation de l’équipe olympique masculine du 🇨🇦 en remplacement de Brayden Point.

Jarvis played for Team Canada during the 4 Nations Face-Off last season, where he got one assist in three games. So far this season with the Hurricanes, he has scored 25 goals and has 48 points in 48 games. If he keeps playing like this, he might finish with 42 goals and 73 points by the end of the season, which would beat his best of 32 goals and 67 points from the 2024-25 season.

Are The Rangers Retooling Or Rebuilding?

At 24 years old, Jarvis seems to be a good choice for Team Canada because of his quickness and skill in playing center. However, it makes you think about what Zach Hyman needs to do to get selected. Even after missing the first month and a half of the 2025-26 season, Hyman has managed to score 22 goals and has 36 points in 39 games this season. He’s shown he can perform well in the playoffs, scoring 16 goals in 25 games during the 2024 playoffs.

While it looks like Hyman should already be on Team Canada, and Evan Bouchard really should be on the team, Connor McDavid is the only player from the Edmonton Oilers on Team Canada. Both Josh Samanski and Leon Draisaitl will be playing for Team Germany.

Team Canada is placed in Group A with Czechia, Switzerland, and France. The tournament begins on February 11th, and Canada will play their first match the next day against Czechia. After that, they will face Team Switzerland on February 13th and Team France on February 15th.

Team Germany is in a group with Team USA, Team Latvia, and Team Denmark, with their games scheduled for February 12th (against Team Denmark), February 14th (against Team Latvia), and February 15th (against Team USA).
