Leafs Fans Are Furious After Morgan Rielly’s Latest Comments About Staying in Toronto

Jim Hiller is bringing Morgan Rielly back to the Maple Leafs after months of debate about his future in Toronto.

Before training camp, there were more questions about if Toronto would trade its longest-standing player. Rielly started the summer amid rumors of a trade. Instead, he’s getting ready for a fresh season in blue and white.

The conversations, the defenseman didn’t pretend, went unobserved. Rielly stated, “There was uncertainty for sure,” when asked about his offseason and the prospect of leaving Toronto.

However, he did much more than simply accept the noise. “This has always been the place that I want to play,” said Rielly, making his choice evident.

Following an offseason that saw a lot of leadership and roster changes, that’s crucial. Since being selected fifth overall in the 2012 NHL Draft, Rielly has played his entire NHL career with Toronto.

And as training camp draws closer, his attitude appears to be quite different from that of a player getting ready to relocate. Rielly stated, “It’s been a terrific off-season.”

Toronto is Morgan Rielly’s favorite choice, and he makes it clear.

In 951 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs, Rielly has accumulated 451 assists and 98 goals. Over several iterations of Toronto’s core, he occupies a position in the group.

He will return to a new bench after today. Another adjustment was made for Rielly when Jim Hiller was appointed Toronto’s head coach on June 17 in preparation for a new Maple Leafs season.

The locker room will also be graced by a few fresh faces. Before puck drop, Rielly was in a natural leadership position because he stated that the process of developing relationships with new players had already begun.

Toronto’s roster difficulties are still there despite his remarks. They do, however, dispel any ambiguity about Rielly’s personal preferences.

The seasoned defender is not asking out, separating himself from the team, or talking as though he anticipates a transfer. He is overtly portraying Toronto as the city where he wants to remain.

The Maple Leafs now have to make a choice. Rielly has expressed his opinion, and with him still very much in the picture, training camp is approaching.

The player who is the focus of the trade discussions has a straightforward response: Toronto is still home. Leafs supporters are enraged after Morgan Rielly made his most recent statements regarding remaining in Toronto.
