While being interviewed on TNT Thursday night, former Oilers’ general manager Ken Holland mentioned that he is looking to trade another former Oilers player, winger Warren Foegele.
Team chasing last playoff spot in West
It’s obvious now that the Kings are trying hard to get a playoff spot this season. They are currently in 5th place in the Pacific Division with 60 points, which allows them to hold the 2nd Wild Card position in the West.
However, there is no guarantee that they will make it to the playoffs since many teams are close in the NHL standings. Still, Holland thinks that bringing in a new center would help his team’s chances.
The Hurricanes sent Foegele to the Edmonton Oilers on July 28, 2021, in exchange for defenseman Ethan Bear. His top season with the Oilers was in 2023-24 when he scored 20 goals and got 41 points in 82 games.

Foegele has not been playing with the Kings lately, which suggests he might be on the trade list.
Getting Artemi Panarin onto the team was an important first step for LA. The next question is, what can they trade Foegele for?
Foegele could be an interesting buy-low target… Healthy scratch in LA. Production has crashed but has a 5% on-ice shooting %. Was terrific last season, does a lot of stuff, and still provides great defensive+PK value. Not cost prohibitive either. pic.twitter.com/hEj4TLX4ff

His scoring has gone down a lot this year; in 43 games, the former Oilers player has only scored 6 goals and earned 8 points. This is a big drop from last year’s 24 goals and 46 points, and the year before that when he had 20 goals and 41 points.
Similar to what happened with Mangiapane in Edmonton, sources say that since Foegele is not performing well compared to his $3.5M salary cap hit, the Kings might actually have to give another team something to take his contract, like a lower-level prospect or future options.
Like Mangiapane, Warren has one year left on his 3-year contract with the Kings, and it includes a modified no-trade clause.
