The hockey world loses a beloved play by play broadcaster today

Some of the most memorable calls from the 1990s. The famous Vancouver Canucks announcer Jim Robson has died at the age of 91.

Robson announced many of the most important moments in Canucks history and was part of the team’s community right from the beginning. He was called “The Voice of the Canucks” from 1970 until he retired in 1999 and inspired many brave broadcasters in Vancouver like Jim Hughson and the current Canucks play-by-play announcer John Shorthouse.

Definitely, some of Robson’s most unforgettable calls happened in the spring of 1994 when the Canucks made an unexpected run to the Stanley Cup Final.

Fans of the Canucks from that time will always remember Robson’s excitement when Greg Adams scored, sending Vancouver to the Stanley Cup Final.

However, one of Robson’s most famous calls came in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Rangers.

Facing a lot of pressure with the Rangers aiming to win everything in Game 6, the Canucks pulled off a fantastic 4-1 victory at home, forcing a final Game 7 in New York. In the last moments of that game, Canucks captain Trevor Linden was tackled by Rangers captain Mark Messier, and that’s when Robson made his most unforgettable call:

“There is going to be that 7th game. . . and you know he’ll (Linden) play. You KNOW he’ll play. He’ll play on crutches if he has to! He’ll play and he’ll play at Madison Square Garden! ”

This call absolutely shows why he was such a legendary broadcaster.

It’s really sad that Robson never got to see his favorite Canucks lift the Stanley Cup.

Rest in peace, Jim.
