Leon Draisaitl’s first time participating in the Olympics ended quickly when Slovakia beat Germany 6-2 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Draisaitl was clearly disappointed with how things turned out and shared his feelings with German reporters.
“There were just too many errors. In a match like this, you have to give yourself the best chance to win. We completely failed to do that,” Draisaitl said in a statement translated for the German sports site Kicker.
“If you play like that, you are not giving yourself any chance. ”
After Germany’s quarterfinal loss to Slovakia, Leon Draisaitl didn’t sugarcoat it.
Blunt. Honest. Frustrated. 🇩🇪
He told German media exactly what went wrong — and fans weren’t ready for it. 👀🔥

Even though Germany was only down by one goal at the start of the second period, Slovakia took control of the game by scoring three goals in a row, two of which happened in just 33 seconds. Going into the third period down 4-1, Germany found it too hard to retrieve the game and ended up losing 6-2.
The two goals for Germany were scored by Draisaitl’s teammates Lukas Reichel and Frederik Tiffels.
There was a lot of excitement during the match, as fans of the Oilers were hoping for a Germany-Canada semifinal where they could see McDavid playing against Draisaitl.
However, that didn’t happen.
On an individual note, Draisaitl led the German team in scoring with 2 goals and 7 points, placing him seventh in the Olympic scoring leaderboard, ahead of big names like Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, and Sidney Crosby.
After the game with Slovakia, Leon shared this message.
“This tournament didn’t turn out as we wanted, but it was still an amazing experience filled with many wonderful memories. Thank you, Milan! And thanks to everyone for your support. ”
