Connor McDavid seemed to get hurt at the Olympics, and Oilers coach Knoblauch didn’t provide any information on when the Captain might come back when he spoke today.
After losing the Gold Medal game, McDavid looked like he got injured since he had his right hand wrapped up while shaking hands with other players.
Updates on the injuries for the Oilers, including when McDavid might come back after the Olympics, were shared by Coach Knoblauch today.
Knoblauch talked about the injuries affecting the Oilers and didn’t have any news regarding when McDavid would be back in the game, suggesting that he might miss some time. Also, Adam Henrique is expected to come back to the lineup, while Kasperi Kapanen will be out for a bit due to a new injury.
I believe McDavid’s flight is scheduled for tomorrow. We will need to discuss when he will be back with the team and when he can start playing.
Adam is doing really well, and I think he will be ready for our first game. Kapanen has a small injury and it is unclear if he will be prepared for the first two games. He might return later in the week.
– Coach Knoblauch
If McDavid was dealing with an injury while playing for Team Canada, it’s likely he would have let the Oilers know if it could impact the rest of the season.
He might be able to keep playing while injured, but the Oilers might decide it’s better for him to take a few games off to recover before he gets back to playing in the NHL.
Kapanen’s injury is a big question mark since he was playing regularly before the Olympic break. He might have hurt himself during practices after the break or even away from the rink. It’s great that Henrique is back, as he might fill in the position for the third or fourth line center.
Leon Draisaitl has clearly been dealing with an injury during the Olympics. He has often been seen putting ice on his right hand, which he hurt right before the NHL break.
The Oilers will return to regular season play a little banged up and not completely healthy. They will have a tough job ahead to finish the season strong and manage any time lost or lower performance from their two star players.
